It is not by chance
In the fate versus free will debate, there seems to be a special case. What if you are born with a unique flamenco voice? Graci says that exploring its power, as well as meeting strangers that become the heroes of her rather romantic songs, never feel like a coincidence. Rather, it is simply a way to stay true to herself and listen carefully to her own intuition about music and people. It is this sincerity that gives her the confidence to provoke fate and write new verses for her guitar. If there ever existed a non-obvious way to idealize love, the language of flamenco could just be it. This concert is our fate for this Sunday: what does your free will say?
Who is Graci?
Graci spent her childhood summers camping in the countryside. Nothing fancy: a river, her whole family together, a guitar. They would play some happy, intuitive, festive rumbas, tangos and fandangos, and the neighbouring gypsy caravans would echo with their cante jondo, that mysterious way of Andalusian singing that one of the legends of flamenco, La Piriñaca, defined as such when 'your mouth tastes of blood’.
Fast forward a few years: the little girl who used to sing and dance at family parties is now a graduate of the Cristina Heeren Foundation in Sevilla, fully versed in the history of this art, its wicked labyrinth of styles and its historical context reflecting rebellion against social injustice, foreign and domestic oppression and hardships of daily labour.
Singing truth is something that is fundamental for Graci. Her personal truth has curious nuances: in her throat she mixes the heritage of seguiriyas, probably her favourite style, with elements of Andalusian rock from the 70s and punky grunge from the 90s.
How do I see the concert?
Once you have made your donation, we’ll send you an online ticket with a secret code to our invisible private room in Zoom, for which we have a professional account for maximum quality. We do NOT RECORD the concerts and keep our virtual room intimate and cosy, limiting the participation to 35 people.
Will I have a good sound?
We make sure that the artists have the fastest internet connection possible and are properly geared. We run numerous soundchecks prior to the concert to make sure everything is tuned on the artist side! You can do your part: make sure your setup is as perfect as possible with our self-soundcheck guide.
How much should I donate?
We encourage you to make a donation on behalf of every person who participates in this online concert together with you. We believe that 4 euros per person is fair, yet most guests usually contribute around 9 euros, so if you have the means and wish to support the artists and Invisible City further, we’d be grateful if your donation corresponds to what feels fairest to you.
You can also make a donation directly to the Invisible City account:
Account name: Invisible City MTÜ
IBAN: EE88 7700 7710 0336 8942
(Depending on your bank, the transfer may take some time to arrive, this is why please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org letting us know you made a transfer so that we send you your ticket right away!)
How much does the artist actually get?
Even before the gig starts, Invisible City guarantees a minimum of 100 euros to the artist no matter what. This is our investment into the performance which provides a safety net for the artist. We make sure it is never a lottery! These funds come from reinvesting the donations from the previous performances as well as from our private sponsors who support Invisible City directly (here is how you can become one).
What the campaign receives above the 100 euro mark, we share with the artist in equal parts. In this way, we provide a guaranteed income to the artist while staying sustainable and helping more artists run more wonderful gigs.
How do I pay in my currency?
Right next to the amount in euros you can change the currency by clicking on the arrow and choosing yours. This way the system will accept your card.
