FOLK AS BEAUTY IN BETWEEN THE NOTES

@ 20h Portugal || 21h Slovenia

(online via zoom for max 35 people)

There is this proudly impure place on the map of Europe called Slovenia, where the local tradition has both fiercely clashed – and made love with – radically distinct cultures: Italian, Croatian, Austrian and Ottoman. To further complicate the identity puzzle, these are tied together with the threads of uskoki heritage – the Serbian border defenders of Slovenia.

No wonder Zvezdana is a paradox.

Instead of adhering to a single cultural self she has chosen the untrodden path of establishing her own tradition that unites the perfection of classical music, the freedom of jazz and the authenticity of folk.

Her signature genre is thus her hands embroidering music on the harp, accompanied by her voices: the Serbian voice learnt from her grandmother, the voices of the Slovenian carnival with its pagan chasing away of the winter, the Ottomanesque voices of Bulgaria as well as the voices of hidden dialects from the deeper Balkans.

No matter which one of these voices takes the lead, the message it carries is the same: do no evil to nature and respect the songs of the rivers and the spells of the rain. This Sunday we are traveling to Ptuj, the oldest city in Slovenia, in search of beauty in between the notes masterfully arranged by Zvezdana.

Who is organising this concert?

Invisible City, a non-profit on a mission to enable emerging artists to perform more and get paid fairly.

How do I see the concert?

Once you have made your donation, we’ll send you an online ticket with a secret code to our invisible private room in Zoom, for which we have a professional account for maximum quality. We do NOT RECORD the concerts and keep our virtual room intimate and cosy, limiting the participation to 35 people.

Will I have a good sound?

We make sure that the artists have the fastest internet connection possible and are properly geared. We run numerous soundchecks prior to the concert to make sure everything is tuned on the artist side! You can do your part: make sure your setup is as perfect as possible with our self-soundcheck guide.

How much should I donate?

We encourage you to make a donation on behalf of every person who participates in this online concert together with you.

We believe that 4 euros per person is fair, yet most guests usually contribute around 9 euros, so if you have the means and wish to support the artists and Invisible City further, we’d be grateful if your donation corresponds to what feels fairest to you.

You can also make a donation directly to the Invisible City account (for example, from your Revolut app or similar):

Account name: Invisible City MTÜ

IBAN: EE88 7700 7710 0336 8942

BIC/SWIFT: LHVBEE22

(When you make a transfer, please mention your email so that we send you the ticket!)

How much does the artist actually get?

Even before the gig starts, Invisible City guarantees 100 euros to the artist. This is our investment into the performance which provides a safety net for the artist. We make sure it is never a lottery! These funds come from reinvesting the donations from the previous performances as well as from our private sponsors who support Invisible City directly (here is how you can become one).

What the campaign receives above the 100 euro mark, we share with the artist in equal parts. In this way, we provide a guaranteed income to the artist while staying sustainable and helping more artists run more wonderful gigs.

How do I pay in my currency?

Right next to the amount in euros you can change the currency by clicking on the arrow and choosing yours. This way the system will accept your card.

Do you have Apple/Google Pay?

Yes. Just click here.

I need further help with donating!
